Day 02
Sigiriya to Anuradhapura and Mihintale
- After breakfast at your hotel in Sigiriya, begin your journey to two of Sri Lanka’s most historically and spiritually significant destinations: Anuradhapura and Mihintale.
Anuradhapura was the first capital of ancient Sri Lanka and remained an important kingdom for almost 1,500 years. Today, the ancient city is home to impressive ruins and important religious sites that provide a fascinating insight into Sri Lanka’s history.
During your visit, you will explore the Atamasthana, the eight sacred places of Anuradhapura.
Next, continue to Mihintale, a highly significant location in Sri Lankan Buddhist history. It is traditionally regarded as the place where Arahath Mahinda Thero arrived in Sri Lanka during the reign of King Devanampiyatissa in the 3rd century BC and introduced Buddhism to the island.
After exploring Anuradhapura and Mihintale, return to your hotel in Sigiriya.
